Senators Invite Former Vipers Goaltender Hammond To Development Camp:

Former Vernon Vipers goaltender Andrew Hammond
attended the Ottawa Senators development camp last week.

After four seasons with Bowling Green University Hammond signed his first pro contract with the Ottawa Senators on March 20th 2013.  Hammond played last year as a rookie with the American Hockey League (AHL) Binghamton Senators.  In 48 games with Binghamton Hammond went 25-19-3 with one shutout and a 2.81 GAA.

Hammond was called up to the Ottawa Senators on February 27th 2014 vs the Detroit Red Wings.  Hammond was the backup for Senators starting goaltender Robin Lehner that night but made his NHL debut after Lehner was pulled late in the 2nd period giving up six goals on fifteen Detroit shots. Hammond would finish the game playing just over thirty four minutes stopping all eleven Red Wing shots in a 6-1 loss to Detroit.  Hammond attended the Chicago Blackhawks 2012 development camp and attended the Ottawa Senators 2013 development camp playing in a few exhibition games with the Senators last season. (no stats)

Hammond played parts of two years in Vernon (2007-2009) after coming over in a trade with the Surrey Eagles during the 2007-08 season. In 52 regular season games with the Vipers Hammond posted a (33-15-1) record recording 6 shutouts.

News Release:  Senators hold annual development camp, presented by Sport Chek, from July 1 to July 7

All five picks from the 2014 NHL Draft will participate

Monday, 30.06.2014

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today the schedule and list of 34 players attending the team’s annual development camp, presented by Sport Chek, which will take place from Tuesday, July 1, to Monday, July 7, at Canadian Tire Centre and the Bell Sensplex. The club has invited five goaltenders, 11 defencemen and 18 forwards. Each of the camp’s on-ice sessions will be open to the public.

The club’s five selections from the 2014 NHL Draft, held this past weekend in Philadelphia, will attend this year’s camp. Fans will get their first chance to welcome Andreas Englund, a defencemen from Sweden and Djurgardens’ program who the Senators selected with their first selection of the weekend (40th overall).

The development camp, which focuses on off-ice and on-ice training, is led by Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee and members of the team’s coaching staff including Senators assistant coach Dave Cameron, development consultant Jason Smith, goaltending coach Rick Wamsley, video coach Tim Pattyson, conditioning coach Chris Schwarz, Binghamton Senators head coach Luke Richardson, B-Sens assistant coach Steve Stirling and power-skating specialist Marc Power.

Due to overwhelming seating demand, the annual evening scrimmage (5-on-5) will take place at the Kanata Recreation Complex (100 Walter Baker Place) for the first time on Friday, July 4, at 6:45 p.m. The scrimmage gives the Senators’ prospects the opportunity to showcase their talent in a game like setting (two 20-minute periods), while allowing fans the chance to see the future of the hockey club up-close. Following the scrimmage, Senators season-seat owners will be invited back to Canadian Tire Centre for an exclusive meet and greet opportunity with the prospects and a management hotstove session on the arena floor.

Highlights of the Senators development camp schedule:

• On-ice training every day at the Bell Sensplex, starting Tuesday, July 1, with the exception of the camp’s final day, Monday, July 7, which features the 3-on-3 tournament.

Saturday’s first seventh-round selection, Kelly Summers, has spent the past two-plus seasons playing for the CCHL’s Carleton Place Canadians, while Shane Prince spent the last two-and-a-half seasons of his major junior career with the Ottawa 67’s (where he was a teammate of Ceci’s).
