The Saint Michaels College Mens hockey team has named former Vernon Vipers forward Casey Fratkin new Assistant Coach.Fratkin debuted with the Merritt Centennials as a rookie at the start of the 2006-07 season playing in 47 games, posting five goals and five assists. On September 10th 2007 the Centennials traded Fratkin to Vernon for future considerations. After playing in just six games with the Vipers (1-goal-2-assists-3-points) Fratkin was traded to the NOJHL North Bay Skyhawks on October 25th 2007 for future considerations. During the 2007-2008 season Fratkin played with six different teams (Merritt, Vernon, North Bay, Lloydminster, Kamloops & Chase).

Wesleyan spring graduate Casey Fratkin has been named the top assistant coach of the Saint Michael’s College men’s team.
Fratkin comes to Saint Michael’s after a four-year collegiate playing career split between Wesleyan and Elmira College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history with a concentration in European history.
“I would like to thank Coach [Damian] DiGiulian and the Saint Michael’s College athletic department for the opportunity to work for the men’s ice hockey program,” said Fratkin in a news release. “This is a hockey program that is headed in the right direction under Damian’s guidance, and I am excited to work and learn from him during this upcoming season. Furthermore, Saint Michael’s is an outstanding academic institution, and I could not think of a better place to begin my collegiate coaching career.”
“We are thrilled to have Casey join the Saint Michael’s hockey family,” added DiGiulian. “Casey stood out in the interview process as an intelligent, thoughtful and dedicated young coach who will bring good energy to our program. His desire to be a coach and his work ethic sets him apart from many young coaches out there. Along with our two other coaches, Brent Truchon and Ryan Garrow, I am confident that we will have a coaching staff that is committed to helping our student-athletes reach their highest potential.”
Fratkin began volunteering in 2006 as an on-ice instructor and mentor for the Hockey Education Reaching Out Society (HEROS), a Vancouver-based program dedicated to teaching basic hockey skills to economically-challenged youths. He also worked with the Two-Way Hockey School since 2008 and coached the Vancouver Ravens Hockey Club Pee Wee team in the spring of 2010.

Hey, that's some great news to me! Casey billeted with us and I can tell you, he's got drive and work ethic. I'm very pleased to see him getting to a place where his best skills can be appreciated. Good on you, Casey!
