The Penguins won the 2016 Male U15 Provincial Tournament with a 4 - 1 victory over the Wild in the championship game on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Olympic Oval in Richmond, BC.  The event featured eight (8) teams made up of the top 160 players who were selected from their perforamnces at region camps earlier in the year.

The Wild opened the scoring late in the first when Ethan Kitsch (Maple Ridge, BC) found the back of the net with help from Ryland Sorenson (Surrey, BC) and Michael Hoekstra (Victoria, BC).

Midway through the second, Payton Mount (Victoria, BC) took a pass in front, deaked out the goalie and snuck it in behind to get the Penguins on the board. Just 20 seconds later, Kalen Szeto (Burnaby, BC) picked up the loose puck off the face off and buried it for the Penguins lead at the 12 minute mark of the second.

Moments later, Cameron Newson (Surrey, BC) took a shot from the point that trickled in off the Wild goaltender.  Late in the game, Issac Suppin (Kelowna, BC) secured the Penguins victory with a goal off the pass from Zack Feaver (Chilliwack, BC).

“I am super excited right now,” said Penguins forward Alec Scouras (Delta, BC).  “We didn’t know each other before the weekend and now I have a new group of friends.”

“We stressed getting pucks out, getting pucks in all weekend and everybody seemed to do that,” commented Penguins Head Coach Kevin Pedersen. “We played the right way.  We played for each other. Everyone did that all weekend, and today was no different.”

Earlier in the day, the Bruins overcame the Avalanche 6 – 3 to take third place.
