The Vernon Vipers have made a pair of roster moves ahead of the season opener

The move leaves Vernon at 24 players with another move expected to be announced in the next 24 hours.

Home opener is Saturday September 9th and is the second half of a home and home series between the Vipers and Salmon Arm Silverbacks with puck drop scheduled for 6pm. Tickets are available all week from 9-4 at the Viper Office in Kal Tire Place.

The Surrey Eagles are in the process of finalizing their roster for opening day on Friday, and have acquired forward Ryan Brushett from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for future considerations. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound Brushett scored 10 goals and added 16 assists in 50 games with the Vipers last season. He also notched a goal and two assists in 10 playoff games.

Eagles president and general manager Blaine Neufeld spoke about the deal to SurreyEagles.ca, and feels that the 19-year-old can have a major impact on the roster moving forward.

“Ryan is an experienced player in this league, and is a proven point producer. Adding player of his skill level right at the beginning of the season really gives us a boost of confidence. We feel that our group is very strong and have come together through camp, so it will be nice to add Ryan to that mix and give us even more depth to our powerful forward group.”

Prior to playing in the BCHL, Brushett spent two years in the USHL with Sioux Falls and Bloomington. The Verdun, Quebec native was also a sixth-round selection in the 2014 QMJHL draft.

I was a little surprised-shocked to see Ryan Brushett traded. I thought he picked up his game towards the end of last season and brought the Vipers some playmaking-skill up front. The kid can really move the puck, create/generate plays-opportunities, his own down fall is he likes to carry the play-hold onto the puck for too long, tries doing a lot on his own, without passing. I'm more surprised to see him traded for only future considerations. The Vipers better be getting someone good back in return at some point. All the best in Surrey Ryan!

I'm not surprised to see Simon Sagissor released. Acquired at last season's trade deadline, Sagissor never really fit in-produced with the Vipers. Didn't really do much of anything really. Pretty disappointing actually. I thought his younger brother looked better-was more affective in training camp-exhibition games.
